Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday Roll-Up

The TTS Roll-up offers the opportunity for a sociable group of members* to meet for a friendly game throughout the year on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at Frilford Heath Golf Club

FHGC

Like its predecessor the Tuesday/Thursday Roll-up, the TTS Roll-up will, it is hoped, eventually be open to other members on an ad hoc basis, on the lines of the previous (pre-Covid) TT Roll-up arrangements as described briefly in the footnote below.

For the time being, however, in view of the restrictions necessitated by the Covid-19 pandemic, other arrangements have had to be devised and implemented as explained here.

Following the disruption caused to everyone’s lives by the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic which hit the UK in February/March 2020 and the resultant closure of golf courses during the first period of lockdown during March/April 2020, the TT Roll-up was in abeyance for some time.

A group of energetic TT Roll-up (and Saturday Roll-up) regulars put in place ad hoc arrangements to allow some semblance of roll-up golf to resume after the end of the first period of lockdown in May 2020. For some cheering photos click here.

However, following the imposition of a second period of lockdown across the UK necessitated by an upswing in Covid-19 cases, Frilford Heath GC closed again with effect from Thursday 4th November and did not reopen until late March 2021.

In the light of experience during the period from May to October 2020, it was agreed that the TT Roll-up and the Saturday Roll-up (previously organised by Bob Thompson), many of whose regular members are the same, should amalgamate as the TTS Roll-up going forward.

Revised interim arrangements for the TTS Roll-up were put in place following an initial reopening of the courses on 4th December and these have been carried forward to the latest reopening on Monday 29th March 2021.  For a summary of the new arrangements click here

All participants in TTS Roll-up outings are eligible to compete for the Hugh Chamberlain Trophy starting in 2021.  Provisional details were announced with the award of the Hugh Chamberlain Trophy 2020 here, but these may need to be adjusted in the light of experience.

Footnote : TT ROLL-UP ARRANGEMENTS PRE-COVID

All welcome regardless of handicap or age.

Where

Meet on practice putting green – pairings/teams decided on 1st tee of course chosen.

When

In summer, 12.15 pm for tee-off at 12.30 pm.

In winter, 10.45 am for tee-off at 11.00 am.

Format

In summer, usually individual stableford competitions (20p per head in pot, winner takes all).

In winter, as in summer, but also, particularly when weather and/or course conditions are poor, team competitions (£1 per head in pot, winning team shares all).

Handicaps

Prior to the first lockdown, handicaps for regular roll-up players (10 or more rounds in last 12 months) were calculated using a simplified version of the American (USGA) handicapping system (i.e. 96% of the average of the best 10 of the last 20 adjusted stroke play scores).

With effect from 2nd November 2020, the World Handicapping System came into force in the UK and replaced the previous ad hoc arrangements described above.
