This album contains a selection of cards showing Art Nouveau and similar images from the Edwardian and pre-WW1 era by a variety of artists including Raphael Kirchner (1876-1917), Xavier Sager (1870-1930), Charles Naillod (1876-1941), Charles Dana Gibson (1867-1944) and Émile Dupuis (1877-1958).  Also included are cards showing similar romantic images by English illustrator Margaret Tarrant (1888-1959) and others by German artist Berta Hummel (1909-1946) as well as art cards by Helmut Skarbina (1888-1945).

Art Nouveau was an international style of art, architecture, and applied art, especially the decorative arts, known in different languages by different names, for example Jugendstil in German or the Modern Style (British Art Nouveau style) in English. The style, which was most popular between 1890 and 1910, was a reaction against the academic art, eclecticism and historicism of 19th century architecture and decoration. It was often inspired by natural forms such as the sinuous curves of plants and flowers. Other characteristics of Art Nouveau were a sense of dynamism and movement, often given by asymmetry or whiplash lines, and the use of modern materials, particularly iron, glass, ceramics and later concrete, to create unusual forms and larger open spaces.
